Scholastic Book Club Info     Dear Parents and Family Members,

I am excited to announce that our preschool participates in the Scholastic Book Club program. This program provides families the opportunity to order books for their home libraries. The Scholastic reading program is completely optional and you should only participate if you choose. Typically, the books in the catalog are offered at a discounted price from regular bookstores.

Reading to your children at home is a very important part of literacy development. Children learn from listening to words read aloud, looking at words in print, and looking at illustrations to increase comprehension. More importantly, reading to your children at home shows them the importance of reading! Ordering books from this program is one way to increase the books you have at home (in addition to going to your local public library or a bookstore).

Your child will bring home catalogs in his/her backpack approximately once per month. You can look through the catalogs for about a week to decide if there is anything you would like to order. Sometimes, it might be fun to look through the catalogs with your child to see if there is anything that interests him or her.

With each set of catalogs, I will also send home a note that tells when the orders are due back. Make sure to return the orders by the due date if you would like to order something from the catalogs. I will promptly order the books from Scholastic. They will arrive in approximately two weeks and come home with your student in his or her backpack. 

You have two options for ordering: (1) Return the paper order form and a check in your student’s backpack; or (2) Place your order online through Scholastic’s website. On the back of this letter, you will find information that describes how to place your order online if you would like to do so.

Please remember that this is completely OPTIONAL and you should not feel any obligation to order from the catalogs. However, I hope that you enjoy the option to order books at discounted prices to read at home!

In addition to ordering with the paper catalogs, you may place your Scholastic Book Club orders online! Browse all the great monthly selections from the catalog and MORE! Plus, our class earns a FREE book every time a parent orders online.

Here’s how it works:

1. To get started, SIGN UP at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs

2. On the parent page, register by clicking the "Don't have a user name or password" link. (Hint: Write down your username/password for future orders) 

3. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code shown here. HJL2M (This unique code ensures that your order is sent to me.) 

4. Browse the titles with your child and place your order with your credit card.

5. Your order will come to me, and your credit card payment will go directly to Scholastic's secure server. There's no need to send money to school.

6. After I submit the entire class order to Scholastic, your order will be delivered to our classroom for your child to take home.

Ordering online is just one option for ordering from Scholastic Book Clubs. You can order anytime, right up until the online order due date. However, if you prefer to send your order and check to school, please continue to do so! And don’t forget: Every time a parent places an order online, we earn a FREE book for our classroom library!
